ARC Programs

Student-Faculty Interaction

One of the goals of the ARC is to promote student-faculty interaction.  Dates and details about upcoming events are sent out to the undergraduate mailing list.

ASCIT Teaching Awards

Annually during spring quarter, students can nominate professors and TAs to win an ASCIT Teaching Award, and the ARC will choose 8 winners based on the student nominations. This award is entirely chosen by students, from the nomination to the selection process.

Course Compliments

Course Compliments are collected from the student body once per term. The ARC will then print and hand deliver compliments to professors and TAs.

Student-Faculty Lunches

Student-Faculty Lunches are free lunches during which students can talk to professors in a casual setting. They are held once per term with 5-8 professors participating.  Groups are assigned via lottery, but we are often able to accommodate all students who express interest.

Student-Faculty Athletic Games

Student-Faculty Athletic Games are informal athletic games between students and professors. They are held once per term.

Mentoring / Educational Programs

The ARC runs and maintains several mentoring and educational resources. These programs are designed to help Caltech students succeed academically and get the most out of their education.

Option Advising

Option advising is an annual event held during spring quarter designed to help freshmen choose classes for their sophomore fall. Upperclassmen from each option come out to the Red Door tables and answer questions about their option.

Peer Advising

Approximately one week before registration, each house's ARC rep organizes an informal Peer Advising session for upperclassman to talk about class recommendations and general course advice.

Ombuds Training

Ombuds are students who volunteer to act as liaisons between students and the professor for a class. The ARC, in conjunction with the Center for Teaching Learning and Outreach (CTLO), runs an ombuds training session at the beginning of each term where students can learn how to gather course feedback and communicate with the professor. Lunch is provided.

Registration FAQ (Coming Soon)

Once a term, the ARC sends out a frequently asked questions document about registration. The document is dynamic and customized to a specific term's offerings and concerns.
